Always has felt strange that despite Amelie Mauresmo claiming she’s all for furthering the women’s game, she constantly pushes it aside.

I understand the ticketing problem (statistically, men’s matches get more in person viewers), it’s technically irrelevant because a night session can include both men’s and women’s players in one ticket.

Great writing as always.

I agree, it doesn't sit well that a former women's tennis champion is fronting decision-making like this. She won't be the only one involved in that process, but she has a big say of course. Like Jabeur said, I wonder what kind of details are involved in the Prime agreement too. Bottom line is that no tennis tournament in 2024 should be omitting women from the scheduling slot they freely name the "primetime" spot - whether the tournament director is a man or woman. Thanks for reading Jacob.

Tennis will likely need a broadcasting/structural upheaval to see correct treatment for women at slams and bigger events. Tennis Channel’s financials aren’t great, Prime doesn’t always stream tennis here in the U.S, and players at the lower levels still languish for both screen time and money.

Saudis will likely (and somewhat unfortunately) be the most likely candidate, but there needs to be a forcing of the hand here.

This is what happens when you don’t have a proper collective bargaining agreement or players union
