Lucky loser
“I technically wasn’t supposed to be there.”
Victoria Mboko got a call at 1pm to say that she had won £66,000. Also, that she was about to play her first Wimbledon main draw match.
Canadian player Mboko, 18, was knocked out of the Wimbledon qualifying tournament in the final round last Thursday. But she decided to stick around and enter the lucky loser draw so that, if a player pulled out of Wimbledon ahead of the first round through injury, she was in with a chance of getting a call up.
She never thought it would happen though.
